The Icelandic word for stupid (‘heimsk’) derives from the word for home (‘heim’). Back in viking time, when there were no schools and universities, the way to  hear new ideas, see new ways of doing things and to learn was to travel. Those who always stayed at home, they were stupid. An Icelandic proverb says: ‘Heimskt er heimaalið barn’ which means a child needs to go away from home in order to learn.
If this isn’t reason enough to travel, it’s always possible to justify travel with photography.
